Aiyana “Yani” McRae is an East Coast-born, Houston-raised writer, filmmaker, and creative marketing specialist whose ability to transcend the boundaries of industry allows her to thrive at the intersections of her passions.

Yani’s relationship with cinema is one of the eldest in her life, but it was not until her undergraduate Introduction to Film Studies class that she recognized the depth of her appreciation for the art form. Lessons on The L.A. Rebellion and spirited analyses of countless films and genres have since informed the art displayed in this gallery.
Having recently completed her first year of Howard University’s MFA Film program, Ms. McRae is eager to continue nurturing her fervor for screenwriting, directing, and cinematography through the production of short films, music videos, and digital marketing material.

Frequently referring to writing as her “most natural form of self-expression,” Yani has devoted her academic career to the craft, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing. Aiyana has been able to pivot from her history in research, critical analyses, and creative nonfiction to penning short screenplays.
